Forgot Password / Reset Password was created by James Helms
Hi, I am curious how the Forgot Password and Reset Password process is handled when the email address is duplicated?

Please register me on the site, I don't see any way for me to register myself.

Email: james DOT helms 80 AT gmail DOT com

Thanks

You can't sign up as a member, you can post in the forums as a guest.

The forgot password will send to the email associated with the account as normal. What problems would you see with that?

Unfortunately I'm not getting the behaviour described.

Let's say I've got this setup - user1, user2 and user3. These three accounts all have the email "This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.".

I request a password reset and the email comes through to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.. I get a token and type in the username "user2" to reset. It throws up an error saying that the user does not exist and Joomla doesn't reset anything. It seems like the token generated will only reset for user1, or (to the best of my knowledge) the account which was created first with the lowest ID number.

Any workarounds?

The problem is that when you request a password reset it only asks for the email address, so Joomla will use the 1st account it finds linked to that email address.

Can't see a simple solution without a major hack I'm afraid.. not something that I'm looking at doing - Sorry
